As part of our ongoing internal R&D into embedded AI capabilities, our team recently completed integration and testing of the XiaoZhi AI voice assistant on the Infineon PSOC™ Edge E84 development platform (Edgi-Talk board), running on RT-Thread, a lightweight open-source embedded operating system.
In a recent demo, XiaoZhi was asked a natural, real-world question — "What will the weather be like in Penang tomorrow?" — and successfully returned an accurate, real-time weather forecast, entirely through voice interaction on the embedded device.
This milestone demonstrates the board's ability to combine:
- On-device voice interaction via the XiaoZhi assistant
- Real-time internet connectivity (WiFi-enabled querying of live data)
- LLM-powered natural language understanding, allowing the assistant to interpret conversational questions and return relevant, accurate answers
This work is part of a broader internal training and evaluation initiative exploring how compact, IoT-ready hardware like the PSOC™ Edge E84 can support AI-driven voice interfaces — with potential applications across smart devices, customer-facing kiosks, and field equipment where hands-free, real-time interaction adds value.
We'll continue sharing updates as we explore further capabilities of this platform.
